Broward College Named Second Most Affordable Fire Science College in the US

Broward College has been recognized for being one of the nation’s most affordable options for prospective fire science students.

Fire Science Online, a not-for-profit organization that provides free information about fire science, firefighting, and other first-responder education and careers, has released its list of the 67 most affordable fire science degree programs. Each of the colleges and universities on the list offers at least one fire science program and boasts an average annual tuition of less than $10,000. Broward ranks second in the nation with an affordable annual tuition of $1,810.

Nearly 900 colleges in the U.S. offer fire science programs with tuitions ranging from exorbitant to relatively inexpensive. Of those, only schools that met these criteria were included on the list:

•    Colleges with annual tuition below $10,000 only
•    At least 5,000 active students enrolled
•    Four-year, degree-granting institution
•    Fully accredited schools only
•    U.S. colleges only

Seven of the top 10 schools on the list and 11 of the top 15 are members of the Florida College System. The top 10 colleges are:

1.    Salem State University, Salem, Massachusetts ($910)
2.    Broward College, Davie ($1,810)
3.    College of Central Florida, Ocala ($1,819)
4.    Santa Fe College, Gainesville ($1,840)
5.    Pensacola State College ($1,954)
6.    Florida State College at Jacksonville ($1,995)
7.    Gulf Coast State College, Panama City ($2,042)
8.    College of Southern Nevada, North Las Vegas ($2,078)
9.    Great Basin College, Elko, Nevada ($2,078)
10.  Northwest Florida State College, Marianna ($2,365)
