7th Annual Broward College Latin American Summit Brings BC Partners Together
A team of Broward College faculty and staff recently participated in the Seventh Annual Latin American Summit. The conference was hosted by our Bolivian partner, the International University of Santa Cruz (IUSC), in Santa Cruz, Bolivia from April 18-21, 2016. Twenty-eight delegates from various colleges and universities attended the four-day event, making it one of the largest-ever international conferences our College has participated in.
Our College delegation was comprised of David Moore- Dean, International Education, International Educational – Academic Affairs, Scott Mason- District Director, International Education, International Educational Clearing, Claudia Sahagun- Assistant Professor, Modern Foreign Language, Dominique Charlotteaux- Senior Professor, Behavioral Science, and Andrea Apa- Assistant Professor, English As A Second Language – Voc / Prep, each of whom serve as international coordinators. Erwin Richter, GM of the Lingua Language Center was also joined the team as a delegate.
On the first full day of the meetings representatives three US universities: the University of South Florida (USF), the University of Central Florida (UCF) and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and Florida South Western State College located in Fort Myers, FL., were asked to give a short presentation about their universities. Then, the delegates participated in a panel discussion to explain how students from international centers can transfer to their chosen institution upon completing their associate’s degree. Each of the university representatives went out of their way to commend Broward College for the unique partnerships we have created with our aﬃliates and centers, and expressed a desire to actively engage with our international partners to offer transfer support, scholarships, and bachelor’s degree programs on site at Broward College locations.
Next up for our international travelers is the 10th Annual Broward (Eur) Asia conference at the American Polytechnic University, part of the Institute for American Education, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The conference is anticipated to take place in October, 2016. Stay tuned for fun stories from Vietnam!
