Dr. Steve Obenauf appointed interim dean of academic affairs for Broward College’s Central Campus
Dr. Steve Obenauf currently serves as the associate dean of Biological and Environmental Science at Central Campus and has been appointed interim dean of academic affairs of Central Campus. Obenauf joined Broward College in 1987 as an adjunct and became a full-time faculty member in 1993. He has served in many capacities, including chair of the Curriculum Committee, the Academics Standards Committee, and the General Education Task Force; president of the Faculty Senate; member of the General Education Outcomes and Assessment Team. He is a two-time member of the SACSCOC Reaccreditation Steering Committee and faculty adviser for a variety campus clubs. Dr. Obenauf was named Central Campus Professor of the Year in 1996 and 2001 and was named recipient of the A. Hugh Adams Endowed Teaching Chair in 2003.
Dr. Obenauf will officially assume his new role as dean of academic affairs in January 2016.
He replaces Dr. Alice Murillo, who has served as dean of academic affairs since February and also served as dean of the University/College Library from 2013 to 2015. During her tenure, Dr. Murillo oversaw the introduction of the STEM Center, Sunday College, and the expansion of the weekend and early morning programs on Central Campus.
Dr. Murillo will move to Boston, where she will serve as associate provost at Bunker Hill Community College’s Chelsea Campus.
