Delgado Named Academic Dean at North Campus

After a national search, members of the search committee for the North Campus Dean of Academic Affairs concluded the best candidate was already on campus. Dr. Awilda Delgado has been appointed to the position of the campus’ chief academic officer effective Jan. 5, 2015.

For the past six years, Dr. Delgado has served as a mathematics professor and has also provided leadership in other roles such as the interim associate dean for the North Campus mathematics department, coordinator for the President’s Leadership Academy, coordinator for Broward College Academy for Excellence, faculty professional development coordinator for the New Faculty Institute, and on numerous college-wide and campus-based committees, which included college-wide expansion of student success initiatives including Math Redesign, MyLabsPlus, ALEKS, and BCAE. She also chaired four faculty subcommittees for the SACS COC reaffirmation process on academic freedom, faculty professional development, faculty evaluation, and governance.

Before joining Broward College, she taught high school mathematics for five years and served as the director for Honors Student Services and the assistant director of undergraduate admissions at the University of Central Florida for seven years. She also has work experience in UCF’s Career Resource Center and as a programmer with Lockheed Martin.

Dr. Delgado has completed her coursework for her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction at Florida Atlantic University and anticipates completing her program in 2015. She has also earned an M.S. in mathematical science and a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Central Florida.
