Broward College Offers the Gift of Giving with Holiday Charity Events

Broward College is offering several opportunities to give this holiday season with a variety of charitable activities, including toy drives and other family-friendly events. All activities and events are open to the public, and donations are welcome.

Toys for Tots Holiday Toy Drive
Through Thursday, Dec. 10
A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, 3501 S.W. Davie Road, Davie, Bldg. 19, Rm. 106
Student Life Volunteering is collecting new and unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots, which distributes toys to children ages 1-12, whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts during the holiday season. Toy Drive: Help a Family

The Broward College nursing and psychology clubs are collection toy donations to benefit Women in Distress. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Donation
Through Saturday, Dec. 5

New and unwrapped donations will be collected for Joe Di Maggio Children’s Hospital Child Life Department. They are requesting gifts for infants, toddlers and teens, as well as miscellaneous items, such as bubbles, coloring books, markers and Play-Doh. Student Ambassadors Holiday Show and Toy Drive

The North Campus Student Ambassadors are hosting a holiday show that is free and open to the public, featuring nationally recognized dance groups, including  “U 4 Ria.” There will also be a toy drive with donations accepted at the event. Seafarers’ House Shoebox Christmas
Seafarer’s House Casa – Seamen’s Center and Store, 1800 SE 32nd Street, Port Everglades, 33316

Seafarers’ House hopes to hand out as many as 3,000 wrapped shoeboxes filled with socks, toiletries and holiday cheer to the seafarers who come from all over the world into Port Everglades. This year, Broward College is helping them achieve their goal. Homeless Hygiene Kits

The Central Campus Honors Student Committee recognizes the homeless are in desperate need of items normally taken for granted every day – toiletries. As a result, the group has begun collecting items for portable hygiene kits. They are requesting the following items: baby wipes, tissues, lotion, wash cloths, soap, socks, sunscreen, toothpaste, small combs, shampoo, deodorant, ChapStick, hand sanitizer, razors, shaving cream and/or Q-tips. Shoe Drive for Nike Reuse-A-Shoe Program

Broward College is collecting shoes to recycle for Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program. Rubber from the shoes is either stripped, sanitized and turned into mulch for playgrounds or used to create athletic surfaces, such as tennis and basketball courts, running tracks and athletic fields.
