Broward College Hosts ArtFest 2015

Broward College is celebrating the fine arts during the fourth annual “ArtFest 2015,” which will take place Wednesday, Nov. 18 through Friday, Nov. 20 on Broward College’s North Campus, 1000 Coconut Creek Blvd., Coconut Creek, Bldg. 46 Breezeway. All events are free and open to the public.

2015 Broward College Artfest“We are once again excited to host this event, providing an opportunity to make the fine arts accessible to a wider audience, and engaging our students and the community through live-demonstrations, films and art sales,” said Lisa Rockford, assistant professor of fine arts and organizer of ArtFest.

There will be an exhibition of student artwork, including paintings, drawings, 2D design and ceramics, ranging from purely sculptural to functional items like mugs, cups and bowls. There will also be an affordable art sale with a wide variety of vendors just in time for the holiday season, as well as live music and several art-film screenings.

Similar to last year, there will be a live, large-scale mural painting display as a part of the “This is a Canvas” project, which is a collaboration between Broward College and Florida Atlantic University.

Acclaimed visiting artist and book carving sculptor Brian Dettmer will also give a lecture, discussing his innovative and ornate sculptures created from cutting, carving and forming repurposed books and antiquated media. He will also lead a workshop, where he will shares his techniques and processes through a hands-on carving demonstration.

Affordable Art Sale

A wide variety of vendors will sell their art items just in time for the holiday season. There will also be food and live music.

Sculptor Brian Dettmer discusses his innovative and ornate sculptures created from cutting, carving and forming repurposed books and antiquated media. His work has been exhibited and published internationally, and featured in The New York Times, Wired and Esquire. This event is free and open to the public.
